Improved male sexual experience with oxytocin treatment for women
If women are treated with the "cuddly hormone" oxytocin, this can also have advantages for men. This improves your sexual experience, researchers from Austria report. The decisive factor for this is probably the improved communication between the couple.
Cuddle hormone with multiple effects
Oxytocin, also known as the "cuddle" or "binding hormone", plays a major role in childbirth, since it triggers a contraction of the uterine muscles and initiates labor. It is also important for a strong bond between mother and child as well as for the mother's milk intake. It helps to cope with fears and also influences the behavior between partners and general social interactions by making them more bondable and soothing.
Against pain and sexual discomfort
But the hormone can do much more: Scientific studies have shown that ocytocin could help with muscle loss and anorexia.
And it relieves pain, as researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research in Heidelberg reported last year.
Last but not least, scientific studies have shown that oxytocin can reduce sexual discomfort in women.
When women are treated with the hormone, men also benefit, researchers from Austria now report.
Men also benefit
The result of a study at the Medical University of Vienna (MedUni) shows that the sexual experience of men, whose women had received hormone treatment with the “binding hormone” oxytocin or a placebo, could be increased.
Up to a better erection ability, as it says in a message from the university.
According to the information, this effect was independent of the substance. The result is therefore due to the improvement in communication in these long-term relationships.
The 30 couples examined in the study were between two and 33 years old and between 41 and 65 years old.
The results were published in the “Fertility and Sterility” journal.
Improved sexual experience
About a year ago, the researchers, led by internist and sexologist Michaela Bayerle-Eder, found in a study that hormone treatment with oxytocin improves the sexual experience of women with sexual disorders.
At the time, however, it was also shown that the comparison group, which had only received one placebo, showed practically identical improved values.
The sex medics therefore now examined the effects on their male partners. They were able to show that the partner's therapy with oxytocin not only improves her own sexuality, but also that of her husband.
Since this effect was seen in both the substance group and the placebo group, here again the improvement in communication in the couple relationship is the trigger.
Important social interaction in a relationship
The concrete result: "The fact that there was more talk about sexuality in the relationship and that men and women had to keep a diary together helped to increase the sexual experience," said Bayerle-Eder.
The results were as good in the group of couples in which the women were given oxytocin as in the group in which the women were given only one placebo.
“A very important finding for all sex therapists. Not only the drug helps, but obviously the more important thing is the functioning, social interaction in a relationship, ”said the study leader.
This is particularly important for older couples in long-term relationships. (ad)
