Americans spend approximately $ 30 billion annually on complementary medicine products and therapies. This shows a recent evaluation by the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) on the health behavior of Americans.

According to the report, around 9% of all out-of-pocket health expenditure and 1.1% of the total expenditure in the US health market was spent on alternative products and services such as herbal medicinal and nutritional supplements, chiropractic, massages or meditations and yoga. Adults accounted for $ 28.3 billion and children for $ 1.9 billion.
Americans spend $ 14.7 billion on visits to complementary medicine doctors or therapists (e.g. chiropractors, acupuncturists, manual therapists). That is almost 30% of what they spend on conventional doctors / therapists. They spend more money on visits to naturopathic therapists than on naturopathic supplements or self-help materials ($ 12.8 billion). (pm)
